Danaparoid
Classification : Low molecular weight heparins
Danaparoid will inhibit the thrombin generation by inhibiting the coagulation factor Xa and thrombin ( factor IIa ).[15]
Prevention & treatment of venous thromboembolism[8]
Prevent clotting during extracorporeal circulation ( haemodialysis )
Stabilise unstable angina
Prevention of deep-vein thrombosis in general or orthopaedic surgery[1]
Used in thromboembolic disease in patient having history of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia[1]
The 2 available ways are subcutaneous and intravenous. [16]
The dose varies from a patient to another. Doctor’s order or directions on the label need to be followed. However, for average injection dose (if not stated differently by doctor) is :
Adults—750 anti-factor Xa units, injected under the skin, two times a day for up to fourteen days after surgery.
Children—Use and dose must be determined by your doctor.
This dosage is for for prevention of deep venous thrombosis (leg clots) and pulmonary embolism (lung clots). [16]
-
Bleeding esp among low body weight adults eg men below 57kg[8]
-
Pain at injection site , fever[13]
i. Danaparoid-Heparinoids
Use of the two agents together will increase the risk of bleeding due to increased in Prothrombin Time (PT)[4]
Dose depends on uses
For treatment of venous thromboembolism, dose 1000 units/kg by sc injection every 12 hours until optimum anticoagulant effect[8]
For unstable angina, it is given sc of 1mg/kg or 100units/kg for every 12 hours, continue to at least a week together with aspirin[17]
Use with care in elderly and patients with renal failure; creatinine clearance < 30ml/minute[13]
Patients with recent or anticipated epidural or spinal anesthesia are at risk of spinal & epidural hemitoma and consequent paralysis when using this drug[13]
Contraindicated with patient having hemorrhagic disorder[1]
Not to be used in patient having low thrombocytes level[1]
Contraindicated in patient with diabetic retinopathy[1]
Contraindicated in patient with severe hypertension[1]
